about
This recording represents a time when Jim Nolet focused on applying his advanced studies in harmony, rhythm and composition. Many jazz musicians of the loft era in New York city such as Jim Nolet, Ornette Coleman, Gary Peacock, Fred Hopkins, Butch Morris, Henry Threadgill, Don Cherry, and Miles Davis represented jazz as a continued progressive creation of sound.
In this historic union of the Jazz Giants of modern jazz, Nolet and Murray spar with harmolodic themes and come together with spontaneous counterpoint. The foundational layer of this composition plays jazz history and is well rounded with Newman Baker and Brad Jones locking in a blues groove while comping the ensembles progressive polyrhythmic developments. Bern Nix's harmolodic influences as in his work with Ornate Coleman come to life as he paints the colors of jazz throughout this canvas.
"...David Murray blends with Nolet’s violin like oil paints on Klee’s pallette.”
